Lincoln City Women bow out of the FA Cup after a 5-2 defeat away at West Bromwich Albion.
Lee Mitchell took charge for the first time since his appointment as First Team Manager. He brought a number of Development Team players onto his substitute bench but largely kept the Starting XI the same as before the break.
West Brom got into the game from the off, with the Imps taking time to get off the mark. The hosts took the lead in the first minute of the match, a long range cross found the head of Jade Arber who headed it into the back of the net.
It didn’t take long to compound their lead. In the seventh minute Nat Murray found the top corner of the goal.
Lincoln came into the game more as the half moved on, having numerous chances but being denied a goal by Albion players flooding the box.
Half time 2-0.
Mitchell made two half time substitutions, Marsh and Wilcock made way for Amy Blinkhorn and Toni McHamilton. The half got off to a better start, with the Imps keeping good possession and having a few attempts on goal through Rousseau and McHamilton.
Against the run of play, Emily Owen scored for Albion and they lead 3-0 in the 55th minute.
Four goals came in five minutes as West Brom made it 4-0 in the 77th.
In the 79th, McHamilton made her mark on the game. She received a cross from Hardy and fired the ball into the net.
West Brom then took the ball down the other end from the centre kick and scored again in the 80th.
McHamilton scored her second goal in the 81st minute, almost mimicking her first. The Imps kept fighting for more but were unable to pull another back.
Full time 5-2.
Out of the FA Cup, the Imps will now look ahead to pre-season games in the coming weeks.
