Report: Imps v Moorlands

Lincoln City Women progressed through to the final of the Lincolnshire County Cup for the seventh consecutive year with a convincing 10-2 win over Lincoln Moorland Ladies.

Richard Cooper named a strong side for the semi-final tie with the only big change coming in goal as development goalkeeper Sophie Hudson got the nod ahead of Chloe Gray.

It only took Abbie Murrell under one minute to give Lincoln City the lead as she chipped the visiting goalkeeper from the edge of the right-hand corner of the penalty area.

Lincoln’s lead was doubled when Murrell speared the ball past the opposition keeper after being set-up sweetly by Atkinson down the left-hand side.

Within thirteen minutes Lincoln had their third as they sliced the ball through midfield to arrive at Jess Rousseau who was on hand to pick up and smash into the goal.

Moorlands managed to not concede when Rousseau’s attempted cross was spilt by the goalkeeper, who knocked it off the inside of her own post but still prevented it from crossing the line.

Soon, a lapse in concentration from Lincoln City allowed Moorland’s back into the game when their forward stretched the ball into the bottom right corner.

A quick response from the Imps saw them get four as Atkinson’s shot took a deflection on the way in from an acute angle.

Within two-minutes of the second-half starting, the Imps bagged a fifth goal through Jeorgia Carr, who had just come off the bench.

A corner worked a treat for Lincoln City when Katy Thornley headed home directly from the corner piece.

Atkinson scored an astonishing goal after her intended cross ended up finding the back of the net.

The eighth goal started with Tia Johnson , who provided a cross from the left-hand-side to find the head of Thornely, allowing her to head in her second.

Lincoln City’s ninth goal came directly from the corner flag as Sophie Crosby’s ball fizzed straight into the top right corner.

A mix up in the Imps’ defence led to an error which invited Moorlands' attacker through on goal to claim a consolation for the visiting team.

The game finished with Ella Tuplin making it ten with a composed strike into the bottom left corner throughout the ferocious hail which began to unleash upon Ashby Avenue.

The Imps will face the winner of Grimsby Town v Cleethorpes in the final at a venue to be decided.
