Lincoln City Women had a disappointing day away at Long Eaton United, losing 2-1.
Despite Emily Atkinson (22) giving the Imps the lead, their hosts came from behind to take the three points.
The Imps changed more than half of their winning starting lineup against Lincoln Moorlands. Chloe Gray returned in goal in place of Sophie Hudson. Katy Thornley, Erin Bellaby, Jeorgia Carr, Ella Tuplin, and Toni HcHamilton replaced Erin Wilson, Amy Kay, Olivia Leslie, Heather Pettit and Abbie Murrell.
The game started well for the Imps, with attempts on goal coming from the first whistle. They put the Long Eaton goalkeeper, Merce Schmid, under continued pressure. McHamilton looked promising but wasn’t able to give her team the lead.
The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute, when Bellaby found Atkinson wide out on the left. She skillfully brought the ball into the box and fired low into the far corner of the goal.
Atkinson, Carr, Amy Blinkhorn and McHamilton continued to test the keeper to no avail.
Half time 0-1.
The hosts came out with more of a fight in the second half. Their first shot on goal came just one minute after the whistle and they levelled the score a minute later from long-range.
They continued to dominate until around the 75th minute when the Imps started to look more threatening again. However, the blow came late on as the Long Eaton striker was player through on goal and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The Imps were unable to pull the game back.
Full time 1-2.
