Report: Imps v Hollwell Sports

Lincoln City Women picked up their first three points of the season, beating Holwell Sports 6-3 away.

The Imps made four changes from last week's draw against Long Eaton. Amy Blinkhorn, Jeorgia Carr, Jess Rousseau and Lauryn Wilckock started in place of Emily Atkinson, Leah Hardy, Katie Williams and Ellie Scotland.

It took a matter of minutes for Ellie Gilliatt to bring Lincoln off the mark. Sophie Crosby found Gilliatt from a corner kick and she headed it into the back of the net.

She quickly scored a second. A quick run up the left of the pitch brought her one on one with the keeper and she calmly slotted it in.

In the 18th minute, Gilliatt completed her hattrick, colliding with the keeper in the process but recovering in time to make it 3-0.

Soon after, Jess Rousseau took a powerful shot over the keeper, who got her fingertips to it. There was a bit of a scramble and it was millimetres from crossing the goalline.

Lauryn Wilcock scored her debut goal for the Imps. Her goal was not too dissimilar to Gilliatt's second. She made a quick run down the left wing, got one on one with the keeper and made it 4-0.

Holwell then scored from their second real attempt on goal. Their striker sent it into the top left corner, too high for Amy Halloran to reach.

Then just before half time, Mary Cooper scored with a powerful header from a corner.

Half time 1-5.

Holwell pulled one back early in the second half with goal straight from a freekick just outside of the box.

Pressure from Leah Hardy and Emily Atkinson forced a defensive mistake and Atkinson scored from close-range.

The hosts brought themselves into the game a lot in the second half and looked threatening.

They managed a third goal in the dying moments of the game.

Full time 3-6.

Manager, Richard Cooper, said: "In the first half we absolutely pulverised them and we should have been out of sight really and never even given them a sniff of being able to get back into the game.

"We just need to be more clinical in front of goal and we've got to make sure we can cut out one or two of the poor decisions that we might make in the midfield and defensive third, which has ultimately let them back into the game at times."
