Report: Imps v Burton Albion

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

Lincoln City Women had yet another successful league performance after beating Burton Albion 10-0 at Active Nation, Yarborough.

The Imps made two changes from the winning FA Cup line up against Solihull Moors. Chloe Gray replaced Amy Halloran in goal. Ellie Scotland played in place of Jess Rousseau, Emily Atkinson started up front instead of Lauryn Wilcock and Wilcock joined the back line in place of Sophie Crosby. Erin Bellaby made the step up from the Development Team, starting the game on the bench.

The game was dominated by Lincoln with a debut goal, a five minute hattrick and a clean sheet.

The first half got off to a fairly average start for Lincoln. The visitors struggled to get past the Imps’ midfield with Wilcock, McHamilton and Atkinson having plenty of attempts on goal.

Despite dominating, the performance was far from perfect and shots on target were scarce. The Imps took the lead early in the game through an Albion own goal. A promising-looking cross from Atkinson was stuck perfectly by a visiting defender, catching the keeper unaware.

The second goal didn’t come until the closing minutes of the first half. Amy Blinkhorn stepped up to take a corner and expertly found the head of Katy Thornley.

Half time 2-0

The second half was better. Just five minutes in, Thornley crossed to Scotland in the goalmouth, who found the back of the net.

In the 63rd minute, Blinkhorn took another corner, bypassing the heads of everyone and slotting into the top corner of the goal.

The Imps then made their first substitutions: Bellaby and Rousseau came on for Scotland and Daisy Marsh.

Shortly after, yet another Blinkhorn corner was crucial in the build up to a goal. Amy Kay received the cross and set Mary Cooper up for a header.

Just 13 minutes after stepping onto the pitch Bellaby had a long-range shot and made it 6-0.

After numerous attempts, Atkinson secured a goal of her own just inside the final ten minutes. The team was clicking more in the build-up to the goal.

In the 85th minute, it was time for McHamilton to step up and take a penalty. Exactly like in the previous game, she calmly converted it.

She scored twice more in the following five minutes, once from a rebound and once from 25 yards out.

Full time 10-0.
