Report: Imps v Bedworth

Updated: Oct 12, 2020

Lincoln City Women maintained their unbeaten run in the league with a 3-1 win away at Bedworth.

Manager, Richard Cooper made one change from the winning line up against Doncaster Rovers Belles. Katy Thornley returned in place of Alivia Chambers.

It took time for the Imps to get into the game, with all attempts being nullified by the hosts.

Amy Kay, Jess Rousseau and Ellie Gilliatt secured the victory in the second half.

Early in the game, Ash Housley-Stott was carried off the pitch after injuring her ankle. The Imps were forced to make an early change. Sophie Crosby came on as a replacement left-back.

Play settled after that point and was fairly for the first half. Amy Halloran in goal was put to work but not tested, making easy saves.

At the other end of the pitch, Lincoln had plenty of attempts go wide or be tipped over the bar by the Bedworth goalkeeper.

Half time 0-0

The second half was a lot stronger for the Imps and Bedworth struggled in the midfield.

A very high-impact performance saw multiple attempts on goal but the stalemate wasn't broken until the 63rd minute.

After a fumble in the box for the Bedworth defence, Amy Kay tapped it past a group of defenders and found the back of the net.

Emily Atkinson made a great run down then left wing and took on two defenders before delivering a neat cross into the box. A professional finish from Rousseau made the score 2-0.

Lauryn Wilcock and Jeorgia Carr then came on in place of Atkinson and Leah Hardy.

Minutes later, Bedworth pulled a goal back with a distance shot into the far corner, out of Amy Halloran's reach.

Not deterred, the Imps kept pushing and soon secured the victory. Ellie Gilliatt scored a classic Ellie Gilliatt goal, getting one on one with the keeper before moving the ball onto her left foot and getting around and tapping the ball into the empty net.

The game grew more scrappy as it went on. Bedworth became much more physical and impatient to the point one player was sent to the sin bin in the 85th minute.

The Imps saw the game out when the hosts were down to 10 players.

Full time 1-3.
