Report: Imps v Bedworth

Lincoln City Women were outplayed by Bedworth United, losing 4-1 at The Oval this afternoon. The Imps made two changes from last week’s starting line up. Tia Johnson and Heather Pettit started in place of Emily Atkinson and Eden Pedersen.

The hosts dominated possession from early in the game, taking the lead in the 20th minute. A cross came in and found the head of a Bedworth player, who bypassed Chloe Gray in goal and spot the ball into the back of the net. Lincoln then looked like they were going to score straight after the goal but lost possession and Bedworth scored again from the counter-attack. Gray saved the initial attempt but was unlucky as the ball rebounded to the striker’s feet. The Imps turned the pressure up as the half drew to a close, with Murrell and Johnson being persistent with their attempts, but the opposition goalkeeper wasn’t particularly tested. Half time 2-0. The second half started much better for the Imps. Just two minutes in, Johnson made a strong run down the left, dribbled past a defender, got control of the ball on the edge of the box and fired it into the back of the net.

Just as it looked like the game would end 2-1, Bedworth added to their lead and put even more pressure on Lincoln. Ten minutes later, they scored their fourth of the game. Full time 4-1. Hear what manager, Richard Cooper, had to say about the game:
