In their first league game as Lincoln City Women, the Imps faced a 3-1 defeat away against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves dominated the league last season, narrowly losing out on promotion.
Five new signings made Lincoln’s starting 11: Amy Halloran, Amy Kay, Emily Atkinson, Jeorgia Carr and Amy Blinkhorn made their debuts.
The Imps made a positive start to the game. In the 5th minute, a corner from Eden Pedersen found Carr, who headed it home to give Lincoln the early lead.
The Imps had a strong first half an hour, with plenty of promising attacking play and Halloran making some brilliant saves in the Lincoln goal.
In the 33rd minute, Wolves levelled the score and by the 40th, they had scored two and taken the lead. The half time score was 2-1.
In the second half, the hosts showed more of the quality they played with last season and added to their lead in the 57th minute.
Lincoln continued to pressure their opponents but, despite Daisy Marsh, Taylor Dean and Tia Johnson coming on as substitutes, they failed to get through on goal and the game ended 3-1.
Manager, Richard Cooper said:
"In reflection, 3-1 is possibly a fair result. There's still lots more to come from us. Wolves are by fair the best team in the league but I think that players can take a lot from this because if that's the measure between us and the best in the league, there's not a lot of difference between us and the very best."
Next up, the Imps host Stoke City in the FAWNL Cup on the 25th.
