Lincoln City Women took three points with a dominant display against The New Saints at Ashby Avenue.
The Imps made one change from last week’s starting line up against West Bromwich Albion. Amy Hunt started in place of Heather Pettit.
Dominating from the start, Abbie Murrell’s first attempt on goal for Lincoln came in the first minute of the game. In the 11th, Katy Thornley crossed to Tia Johnson, who slipped it past the TNS goalkeeper.
The hosts created lots of chances and Johnson scored her second goal of the game at the half an hour mark. Murrell’s attempt rebounded towards Johson from the goalpost and Lincoln doubled their lead, making the half-time score 2-0.
The second half was much the same for the Imps, goals in the 54th and 60th minutes from Murrell gave the team a very comfortable lead. The goal on the hour mark was the result of strong individual play from the striker, who slipped it through the keeper’s legs.
The visitors managed to pull two goals back but an 80th minute long-range goal from Thornley secured the victory for the Imps.
Manager, Richard Cooper, said:
”It just goes to show that we’ve got nothing to fear in the league that we’re in. We’ve just got to believe in ourselves more, have more confidence, and not have to wait to get a goal in front before we start believing in ourselves.”
The team will face Solihull Moors at home next weekend, Sunday 29 at 2pm.
