FA Cup Report: Imps v Solihull Moors

Lincoln City Women achieved a triumphant 7-0 win against Solihull Moors at Ashby Avenue.

The goal-filled game sees the Imps enter the draw for the next round of the FA Cup.

Lincoln made three changes from last week’s winning starting line up, also against Solihull Moors. Eden Pedersen, Heather Pettit and Jeorgia Carr started in place of Erin Wilson, Daisy Marsh and Olivia Leslie.

Both teams had a strong start, creating many chances in the opening minutes. Lincoln had the edge on possession in the final third and made the most of their advantage.

Just seven minutes into the game, Abbie Murrell opened the scoring for the Imps. Murrell’s cross towards Carr found the inside of the net.

Blinkhorn added to the score in the 16th minute when Murrell passed the ball forward to her in front of goal and she calmly slipped it past Solihull’s goalkeeper. The half time score was 2-0 to the Imps.

Murrell entered the second half much the same as the first, scoring her second goal of the game in the 54th minute, making a tight turn on the spot before finding the top right corner of the net.

In an intense spell of four minutes for Lincoln, they added three goals to the scoresheet. Murrell scored again in the 72nd and 75th minutes, while Amy Hunt scored from a long-range shot in the 76th.

Murrell scored her fifth goal in the 82nd minute when the Solihull goalkeeper got her fingertips to the ball but failed to stop it ending up in the back of the net. She completed the scoring and the game ended 7-0.

Manager, Richard Cooper said: “I can always find room for improvement and there are certainly things we an get better at but I was really pleased today. I think this has been coming for a few weeks now. We needed to convert more chances and we’ve done that today.”

Next, the Imps travel to Sporting Khalsa on October 20.
