Lincoln City Women progress to the semi-final of the Lincolnshire County Cup, beating Hykeham Town 5-0 at Ashby Avenue.
The Imps - who play two leagues higher than Hykeham - made two changes from their last starting line up, against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Katy Thornley and Jeorgia Carr started in place of Heather Pettit and Jess Rousseau.
Lincoln dominated from the first whistle and took the lead in the 18th minute. Abbie Murrell got the ball under control at the edge of the penalty box and chipped it over the Hykeham goalkeeper’s head.
They quickly doubled their lead, with Amy Blinkhorn hitting the ball on the volley following a defensive mistake from the visitors.
The duo continued with their strong shots on goal but found themselves wide of the net on several occasions.
Hykeham also had a few attempts, looking threatening on the counter-attack and breaking through occasionally disjointed defending from the Imps. However, they were unable to get past Chloe Gray in goal.
Half time 2-0.
The second half performance was much the same from both teams. Lincoln continued to dominate but weren’t as comfortable in possession as they have been in recent games.
It wasn’t until the 83rd minute that the Imps added to their lead. Toni McHamilton collected the ball following a goalmouth scramble and calmly slotted it into the back of the net.
Thornley made a quick run through Hykeham’s defence a few minutes later and crossed to Murrell, who scored. In the final minutes of the game, Amy Kay provided the same support and allowed Murrell to complete her hat trick.
Full time 5-0.
