Report: Imps take on Molineux

In a game like no other....

A standard game in the FAWNL doesn't start with players from both sides standing on the pitch to take in their surroundings for an entire half an hour even before getting ready to warm up.

The players certainly took their time to embrace the Premier League stadium before the final game of the season.

Manager, Lee Mitchell made four changes from the starting XI that faced Wolves in May. Amy Halloran started in goal instead of Lana Timson, Sophie Crosby replaced Alivia Chambers, Lauryn Wilcock made way for Toni McHamilton and Daisy Marsh played in place of Betsy Thomas.

In a fairytale start, the Imps took the ball straight to the goal, earning a corner in the opening five minutes of the game. Sophie Crosby stepped up to the flag and powerfully sent the ball straight at Shan Turner in the Wolves goal. The keeper couldn't stop the ball and the team celebrated on the big stage.

As the half progressed, Wolves saw more of the possession and put pressure on Halloran in goal. The Imps' back line and Halloran put in block after block.

Wolves put the ball in the back of the net in the 18th minute but the goal was ruled offside. The half went on much the same, the Wolves' attack and Imps' defence balancing each other out.

It was a second half penalty that began to separate the teams. In the 62nd minute, Anna Morphet was tripped in the box and converted from the penalty spot. In the 77th, Kelly Darby gave Wolves the lead and in the 80th, Emily Dicken made it 3-1.

Every player for both teams made an appearance on the pitch for the occasion.
