Lincoln City Women host West Bromwich Albion in the FA Women’s National League Plate at Ashby Avenue this Sunday.
The fixture mirrors that of the first game of the FAWNL Plate last season, when Lincoln City (then Nettleham Ladies) traveled to West Brom - on which occasion they faced a 5-0 defeat.
Previous meetings
Prior to Albion’s promotion from the Midlands Division One this summer, the teams met three times last season. Following their 5-0 Plate victory last October, West Brom struggled when visiting Lincoln at Mulsanne Park. Daisy Marsh broke the stalemate for the Imps around the hour mark and the team held the lead until the game was deep into injury time. The visitors scored two goals in as many minutes and took the three points with a 2-1 victory.
In March, Lincoln once again traveled to West Brom and faced a 7-1 defeat.
Recent from
West Brom currently sit seventh in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division, one league higher than Lincoln. They have two wins and two losses in the league so far. The season has picked up for the team, having suffered three losses in their first three games, including a 4-2 defeat against Barnsley in the FAWNL Cup.
In recent weeks, Sunday’s visitors have beaten Stoke 2-0 and Loughborough 5-0. Lincoln’s season has started much the same, with three defeats and two victories. Stoke took a narrow victory over Lincoln in the Cup last month.
Who to watch
Jade Arber has already scored five goals in five appearances for West Brom after signing for the side this season. Arber left Long Eaton this summer for the newly-promoted side after scoring 30 goals in 28 appearances for the Derbyshire side.
Arber narrowly missed out on being the Midlands Division One league’s top goalscorer last season, scoring just two fewer than Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jade Cross.
