Lincoln City Women host Bedworth United this Sunday.
The teams started last season neck and neck but Bedworth had the edge as the season came to a close and finished six points and two places ahead of Lincoln (then Nettleham).
Previous meetings
When Bedworth visited Mulsanne Park last September, they took the three points with a 3-2 victory. Despite great goals from Tia Johnson and Abi Ringrose, Lincoln failed to take the lead against an energised Bedworth side.
When the Imps traveled to the Warwickshire team in February, they once again failed to win any points. Play was largely even, but two free kicks given to Bedworth early in the second half saw them take the lead. Abbie Murrell pulled one back late in the game, meaning the final score was 2-1.
Recent form
Lincoln may be entering the game following two defeats in two weeks but they will not be going into it disheartened. The Imps played well against a team a league higher last Sunday, taking the Premier Division side to penalties. A week prior, they faced a strong Wolves team and held their own until late in the second half.
Bedworth will be going into the game following a 4-3 win in extra time in their League Cup fixture against Stockport County last weekend. In the league game against Sporting Khalsa on the 18th, they came away with a 2-2 draw.
Who to watch
Last season’s top goalscorer for Bedworth was Kirsty Farnsworth. In the 2018-19 season Farnsworth scored 12 goals in 23 appearances. She has already scored one goal in two appearances this season and has been awarded Opposition’s Player of the Match in both games.
The game will take place Ashby Avenue on Sunday 1st at 2pm.
