Lincoln City Women travel to Sporting Khalsa for the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.
After a dominant 7-0 display earlier this month at home to Solihull Moors, the Imps hope to capitalise on the success and make it through to the First Round Proper.
Last season - as Nettleham Ladies - the team made it to the First Round Proper. In that game close league rivals Long Eaton United were victorious with an injury time goal and won 3-2.
Sporting Khalsa reached the Third Qualifying Round, losing out to the same opponents 6-1.
Recent Form
Despite a loss in their friendly against Huddersfield Town - who sit a league above - last weekend, the Imps will be entering the tie on a high.
In the league, Lincoln have celebrated a 7-2 victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles, 4-1 against Solihull Moors and 5-2 against The New Saints in recent weeks.
Sporting Khalsa currently sit eighth in the league, three places and two points behind the Imps. This month, Khalsa have faced a 2-0 defeat to Stockport County in the League Plate, a 6-0 league loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 5-2 victory over Leafield Athletic in the FA Cup.
Previous Meetings
The teams met twice last season with both sides taking points from the meetings.
When playing away in September, the Imps won 3-2. Goals in the 4th, 6th, and 10th minutes gave the team the early lead and made a comeback tough for the hosts. In the second half, Khalsa piled on the pressure but failed to overpower the visitors.
When Khalsa visited Mulsanne Park in March, they lead 2-0 at half time. Abbie Murrell scored twice in as many minutes just after the hour mark to level but Khalsa won with a 71st minute goal.
Manager’s Comments
“It is a game that we will be looking to win and come away from the Walsall-based club having booked our place in the first round proper of the competition. It will be great to continue our good run of form having won the last four games pretty convincingly but this will be a tough test all the same and no doubt Sporting Khalsa will have their own high hopes of venturing into the next round of the Cup.”
Who to Watch
Ten of Khalsa’s 23 players have made it onto the score sheet this season and nine different members have received the Opposition Player of the Match title.
The team’s top goalscorer is Lauren Walker, who has found the back of the net ten times in nine appearances.
Walker has previously played for Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, Arsenal reserves and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before moving to the FA Women’s National League and joining Sporting Khalsa.
The game will take place at the Aspray Arena at 2pm on Sunday 27th.
