Lincoln City Women FC in Lincoln has been awarded £3,011.00 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Emergency Fund towards assisting the club to operate during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
The outbreak of the virus and the consequent shutdown of businesses as of March 23 has left the sport and physical activity sector facing a period of uncertainty.
In response, on March 31 Sport England announced a £195m package to help the sport and physical activity sector through Covid-19. Within the package is a Community Emergency Fund, of National Lottery money to deliver funding to those who support the nation to be active but are experiencing short-term financial hardship due to the impact of coronavirus.
The grant will allow Lincoln City Women FC to Affiliate for the 2020/21 season and provide continuing training aids and facilities for the players to help with their health, fitness and mental wellbeing.
“This has been a very difficult time for many sports clubs at all levels and particularly local community football clubs like ourselves. We have lost much-needed income following the seasons early suspension. At the same time, we have had to relocate to a new home and we are incredibly grateful for receiving this financial assistance from Sports England, which will ensure that we can meet pre-season obligations and continue to provide facilities for the ladies to train all within the current guidelines. This will not only benefit their physical health but by being able to meet again as a team, plays a huge part in ensuring they have good mental health too”
